How long do you expect to live? As many research studies on life expectancy do not consider the quality of life, let us also set aside the quality of life for a moment. One of the primary ways to evaluate a nation’s health care system is to look at the death rate. In 1947, life expectancy in India was 32 years and it increases to 68 years in 2015 and it ranked 167 among other nations. In 2015, we spent average 1.3% of our GDP (Source: The World Bank). We have our MRI & CT scanners, angioplasty, bypass surgery, total hip and knee replacement, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, antibiotics, advanced surgical techniques, advanced drugs & intensive care units. Did all our medical advances increase life expectancy in our own country? In 2015, we ranked 167 in life expectancy when compared to other nations. In spite of what we do on health care, we are considered one of the worst nations in the world when it comes to life expectancy. The health care system we claim is good is actually near worst when we look at how long Indians live or………DON’T LIVE. I asked how long you expect to live, but now envision or imagine what your last 20 years will look like? How do you see yourself in last 20 years of your life? Will you be healthy or will you be struggling with chronic degenerative diseases. ARE YOU GETTING YOUR MONEY’S WORTH? I don’t think so…..
